313 Art Project is pleased to present Lee Wan at Expo Chicago 2018 opening from September 27th to 30th. Lee is the representative of the new generation of the Korean contemporary arts concerned with the serious side effects of the irresistible social structure. He will present the new painting works that are especially concerned with the laboring and consuming system.
At the fair, 313 Art Project will introduce a new body of Lee Wan’s <A Diligent Attitude Towards a Meaningless Thing> painting series. The painting series move further from the ideas the artist has been developed through his former video, installation, photography and sculpture works.
Lee Wan also participates in OVERRIDE program, a digital billboard project presented by Expo Chicago and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events of Chicago. The program consists of the works of twelve artists, including Glenn Ligon, Judy Chicago, Sam Durant, and so on…, and Lee presents the image of the painting work <For a Better Tomorrow>, 2015. The project will be displayed throughout Chicago’s City Digital Network from September 17th to October 7th.
Lee represented the Korean Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2017, and had solo exhibitions at 313 Art Project in 2015, 2017, and at Daegu Art Museum in 2013. Winning the first ‘Art Spectrum Artist Award’ by Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art in 2014, he joined group exhibitions including Gangwon International Biennale (2018); SPHERES, Galleria Continua, Les Moulins (2014, 2015); and the Gwangju Biennale (2014).
313아트프로젝트는 2018년 9월 27일부터 30일까지 Expo Chicago에 참가한다. 현재 한국 현대 미술의 대표적인 젊은 작가 이완의 개인전으로, 회화 시리즈를 통해 그가 예술 작품의 주제로 삼고 있는 현대 사회 시스템의 노동과 소비 구조에 대한 비판적 담론을 제기한다.
이번 전시에 소개되는 회화 시리즈는 <무의미한 것에 대한 성실한 태도>의 두번째 시리즈로, 작가가 집적해온 현대 사회 구조에 대한 통찰을 비디오, 설치 등 다양한 미디어에 이어 회화로 풀어낸 작업이다.
이완은 엑스포 시카고와 시카고시 문화행사부처(DCASE)가 주관하는 공공 미술 프로젝트 OVERRIDE에도 참여한다.디지털 빌보드를 활용한 이 프로젝트는 Glenn Ligon, Judy Chicago, Sam Durant 등 선정된 12명의 작업을 영상으로 구성하여 소개하며, 이완은 회화 작업 ‘더욱 밝은 내일을 위하여’를 보여준다. 이 프로젝트는 9월 17일부터 10월 7일까지 시카고 전역에 위치한 30개의 빌보드 스크린에서 상영된다.
이완은 2017년 베니스 비엔날레 한국관 이인전에 참여하였으며, 2015, 2017년 313아트프로젝트, 2013년 대구 미술관 등에서 개인전을 열었다. 2014년 리움 미술관 선정 제 1회 아트스펙트럼 작가상을 수상하였고, 2018년 강원 국제 비엔날레, 2014, 2015년 프랑스 Galleria Continua, Les Moulins에서 개최된 <SPHERES>, 2014년 광주 비엔날레 등의 그룹전에 참여하였다.
