Teresita Fernandez will have her first solo exhibition in Korea at 313 ART PROJECT.
Her latest works include Mirage (Horizontal), a thousand polished mirror glass cubes that depict swarming futuristic bees; Landscape (Panoramic Mirror), precisely cut aluminium sheets where its biomorphic forms splinter reflected light and cast a cascade of overlapping shadows; and Nocturnal series which acquire gorgeous deep-grey metallic sheen from natural raw graphite.
Landscape (Panoramic Mirror) allows for self-reflection upon encountering the natural world. The pieces of green reflected in between the precisely-cut aluminum depict different landscapes of the society. Her Nocturnal series, on the other hand, shows drastic difference depending on how far apart the viewer stands from the work. From a distance, it is dark and monochrome as if it is a minimalist painting, but as the viewer approaches the work, it reveals a detailed and luscious landscape as the graphite reflects luminous night scene.
Through her works, Fernandez explores the perception on contemporary art and fabricated reality.
2011년 9월 20일부터 11월 10일까지 313아트프로젝트에서 테레시타 페르난데즈의 국내 첫 개인전이 열린다.
그녀의 최근작들은 천여 개의 유리거울 큐브로 떼지어 날아다니는 벌들을 형상화 한 ‹Mirage (Horizontal)›, 정밀하게 커팅된 알루미늄 판으로 생물 모양의 형체가 반사된 빛을 뿌리고 겹치는 그림자를 드리우는 ‹Landscape(Panoramic Mirror)›, 자연 흑연에서부터 나오는 황홀한 진회색의 금속성 광택으로 구성된 ‹Nocturnal series›외 다수를 포함하고 있다.
작품을 조금 더 깊게 들여다 보자면, ‹Landscape(Panoramic Mirror)›는 자연 세계와 마주친 깊은 내면의 명상을 가능하게 한다. 정밀 커팅된 알루미늄의 사이로 반사되는 작은 초록빛 조각들은 사회의 여러 다른 풍경을 묘사한다. 반면 그녀의 ‹Nocturnal series›에서는 관객이 작품에서 얼만큼 떨어져 감상을 하느냐에 따라 엄청난 차이를 보인다. 멀리서 봤을 때 그 작품은 미니멀리즘 회화인 것처럼 어둡고 흑백이다. 그러나 작품에 점점 다가갈수록 그것은 세세한 부분들까지 드러내 보이고, 흑연이 반짝이는 밤 풍경을 반사하며 낭만적인 경치를 보여준다.
테레시타 페르난데즈는 313아트프로젝트에 설치된 작품들을 통해 현대미술과 허구적으로 위조한 실제 세계에 대한 인식을 탐험한다.
