Kiwon Park is a leading Korean installation artist who treats spatiality itself as both the core medium and subject of his work, fusing the literal, immediate properties of everyday materials with the specificity of particular spaces. Steering clear of fleeting contemporary trends to cultivate an independent artistic vision, he began with experiments in two-dimensional materiality under the profound influence of post-minimalism, which prioritized the pure physical attributes of raw materials. His formal inquiry into the inherent value of matter naturally expanded into the entirety of three-dimensional space. Encompassing unrefined, everyday materials such as wire, transparent vinyl, air tubes, plastic mirrors, and oil-painted adhesive sheets, his large-scale installation work begins with an intuitive capture of the unique history, structural atmosphere, and personal impressions evoked by the exhibition space as a physical site.

Rather than overwhelming or artificially distorting the space, the artist seeks to maintain a mutually neutral relationship with the pre-existing environment. Leaving the established landscape intact, he introduces only minimal movement and intervention—reminiscent of a faint breeze that barely stirs the fine hairs on an arm, or the fleeting, unremembered figure of a passerby. This rigorous restraint transforms a familiar venue into a completely unfamiliar, novel environment that hovers on the boundary between reality and unreality.
