박주언이 추상화를 그리는 이유는 물감과 색 자체가 가진 날것의 힘을 더 깊이 들여다보고 싶어서다. 그는 대상을 묘사하는 도구로 물감을 쓰기보다, 물감의 끈적임이나 캔버스의 까칠한 촉감 같은 재료의 성질이 화면 위에서 스스로 제 목소리를 내기를 바란다.

이를 위해 그는 물감을 바르고 다시 덮는 과정을 수없이 되풀이하는 자신만의 '반복적인 규칙(시스템)'을 사용한다. 이 반복은 행동을 차분히 통제하는 틀이 되기도 하지만, 몸을 계속 움직이게 하면서 생각을 넓혀주는 통로가 된다. 끊임없는 손짓 속에서 예상치 못한 얼룩이나 균열이 생겨나면, 박주언은 그 우연한 흔적들 사이에서 다시금 조화와 균형을 잡아가려 애쓴다. 그에게 추상이란 재료 및 화면과 끊임없이 대화하며 "그림은 결국 무엇으로 말하는가"라는 질문에 답을 찾아가는 솔직한 과정이다.

Jueon Park paints abstractions because he wants to closely explore the raw energy of paint and color. Rather than using materials simply to depict an object, he wants the physical qualities—like the viscosity of paint or the texture of the canvas—to speak for themselves on the screen.

To achieve this, he relies on systematic repetition, layering and covering paint over and over. This repetitive process acts as a way to control his actions, but it also triggers physical movement and expands his thoughts. As his hands keep moving, unexpected cracks and distortions naturally emerge on the canvas. Park then works to find a tentative balance among these unpredictable shifts. For him, abstract painting is a candid dialogue with his materials, a process of figuring out the fundamental question: "Through what does a painting speak?"
