She refers to herself as a detective through a series of performances where she follows and records strangers. This distinct persona, interpreted through her professional identity, functions as an essential part of her actual life rather than a mere artistic pose.

Calle’s practice is defined by deliberately imposed constraints, a rigorous system of rules evoking Oulipo, the 1960s French constrained literature movement. Whether inviting absolute strangers to sleep in her bed or entrusting her fate entirely to a randomly selected novelist, Calle meticulously records social interactions built solely on absolute trust, subtly detailing the essence of human vulnerability, identity, and intimacy.
